Picture Updates...among other things....

Hey guys!

I have spent a lovely two weeks away from updating my blog. Sorry for that. I was just too lazy to do anything. I am now ready and committed to updating the blog at least once a week with a picture. Thanks for patiently waiting!

In other news, I learned 15 minutes ago from my dad that he is now only working on half the salary he used to.

Because of the economy, two of his co-workers lost their jobs. He was lucky enough, but now my family is on a tough budget. Drinking only water from now on. :P

This means my sisters and I might not be able to attend our church's summer camp. Oh well. I am perfectly happy with doing chores for free and staying home during the summer and making a garden. :)

Even in this misfortune, there are blessings. I get to see my dad more during the week. My mom got a call this morning for a possible job. It's making phone calls to people for a loaning company, but her pay is only in commision.

The best part is that we get to learn to trust God more.

I know, crazy, right?

But we need it. God is shifting my life for a change. For the better. Even though we don't see it in the darkness.

Hoping everyone who reads this is blessed,

Deanna

Quote Day!

Hey!

I have decided to make room on Friday for making quotes. I just decided to quote one early tonight, since Lauren just told me it.

" You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body."
-C.S. Lewis

One more:

"Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a miss print."
-Mark Twain

Valentine what?

As you all know, Valentines Day is this Saturday. Just wanted to get that out in case anyone forgot about it, so now you get to mope if you're single or dodge a close shave if you're taken.

So whats the point of the holiday?

Well, first of all, it became a celebration about 100 years after Christ died. Basically around the year 259 A.D. I found an article online about the history of how Saint Valentines Day was started. I hope you like it!

Valentine's Day started in the time of the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honour Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.

The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.

Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns. Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. He believed that the reason was that roman men did not want to leave their loves or families. As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome. The good Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270. At that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honour of a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed.

The pastors of the early Christian Church in Rome endeavoured to do away with the pagan element in these feasts by substituting the names of saints for those of maidens. And as the Lupercalia began about the middle of February, the pastors appear to have chosen Saint Valentine's Day for the celebration of this new feaSt. So it seems that the custom of young men choosing maidens for valentines, or saints as patrons for the coming year, arose in this way.

So, partially, St. Valentines Day is a nice story, the other part is sorta bloody. Isn't it? But I don't expect you to get anything out of this. Just something interesting I found.

I hope you all find that special someone so you can spend at least one Valentines Day in your lifetime together, if not this year.

What am I doing on Valentines night? Oh, you'll find me indulging myself with chocolates I sent to myself while loafing on the couch watching 'Sense and Sensibility'. Not really, just kidding! I have no reason to feel crappy about Valentines Day. I know I'll get my day soon enough.

So why should I begrudge couples theirs? Such as my mom and dad. I feel bad for my sister. Not that she's mad because she's babysitting on Valentines night. She just hasn't met her match yet. I don't feel pity for her, or envy. I'm just ready to put her in a box and ship her to her future sweetheart.

Happy pre-Valentines!!!!

Hey, and to all those people waiting for my first comic (*cough cough brian cough*) to come out, its taking me a little time to get motivated. I had some *ahem* technical difficulties last week. If you're patient it'll come out sooner!

Comic series!

I am really excited! I have decided to post an online web series for comics I'm making.

This is a big decision since I will have to post something at least twice a week. Get ready for storyboard and characters!

Though it may take some work, this is the upside of being homeschooled. This is for my friend Kara since she has wanted to see my art for ages. Sadly, I am only using paint shop right now, but I'm learning how to copy comics onto the computer, and hopefully buy/recieve some nice software packages. Here is the cover for the first chapter:

Have fun!

Who wants to stay healthy?

Hi!

Around winter, every time of year, some bug is going around. Strep throat, pink eye, pneumonia, flu, you name it.

On January 1st of 2007 I had an operation to remove my tonsils. My atenoids (if you don't know what that is, go find a dictionary) were removed when I was four. Surprisingly, my atenoids grew back and my tonsils swelled until I could barely breathe. It was hard to speak and my words often came out garbled. No one could understand me.

It came to the point where I had no choice but to remove them before I altogether started to suffocate. I was put to sleep during the operation and was (almost) back on my feet in the next four days. I could speak, breathe, and communicate much better with my family.

Before this point it was almost predictable that I would catch a sickness almost instantly. All the junk had been stored right in the two swollen spots in the back of my throat. But now I can stay a whole summer without getting sick once.

Well, now its february of 2009. Two years after that operation. My younger sister came home about two weeks ago with a cough and a raspy throat. I share a room with her. Do the math and you would find that I had a 99.9% chance of getting sick.

Somehow its two weeks in the future and I only have an occasional sneeze. Not an itch in my throat. At random points in the day I get extremely hot, then I am normal within two minutes. Did I mention that that has only happened three times in the passed week? Now my older sister is sick. She has been bed ridden for two days of this week and currently catching up in schoolwork.

Isn't it nice to be healthy? I think at some times it is. But right now I really, really want to sleep in. Have someone baby me. Is that too much to ask for?

I hope you all will have a good year!

Sauron's mouth bites....literally.

So, basically the whole world has either read, seen or heard of the series 'Lord of the Rings' by J.R.R. Tolkein. Personally its one of my favorite series of all time. I've tried to struggle through the books AFTER seeing the movie. Horrible mistake.
After seeing the movie series, my dad suggested trying to read the old-fashioned way (using your imagination, I hate going slow. Don't you like it better when they cram all the experience into a six-hour sequence?) to have the experience that Tolkein portrays in the books. I quite after getting through the first two chapters of the fellowship. Anyways, I liked the movies more because of the way that the characters were portrayed. Alot more humor and entertainment to keep us quoting phrases around a restaraunt table while laughing like idiots and scaring the other customers witless. You don't think so? Let me introduce you to one of my favorite (and neccessarily evil) characters.
Sauron has a mouth. No, not just any mouth. How do you think a flaming eyeball communicates? Just by mind-breaking foolish hobbits and white old men who hasn't seen a haircut (much less a manicure) in fourty years? Not a chance. His Mouth (yes, uppercase, its a proper name) gives orders to the armies and communicates with his Evil Dark Overlord about making plans (and tea parties. What? you think that they need to keep up the whole 'evil' cause the whole time?). The scary, evil, and yet somehow hilarious feature about him is his mouth. Most likely the reason why Sauron picked him to be his second-best servant (his first best is the witch king, but he was demoted when he got creamed by a girl) was because he was all bite.
And why is he my favorite character? I have been blessed and cursed with my grandmother's smile on my dad's side. Okay, some people would say its not THAT bad. When I was a toddler or even a baby people where shocked at my brilliantly wide smile. But if someone asks me to smile as wide as I can you would find that my long lost twin has been posing as a second-best evil mouth. I can't wait until the day that everyone who remembers the movie forgets altogether. It will be so much easier on my part around the dinner table when my mom laughs for no reason at me grinning. Blondes have it soooo easy.
